Not comfortable with throwing a fishing line over a wire, I decided to take another approach for my dove honey hole: 16' pt 2x4 hinged on a pt 2x4 two ft. in concrete, with angle iron brace locked in place with a 5/16 galvanized carriage bolts and wingnuts for fast assembly and takedown. Drove a T post in about 2/3 toward the top and wired it in place so that it is out of the wind when not in use, dove removed, but still off the ground so critters don't trample it. Added another branch Here is the hinged base:

You could put that up on Peachtree Street in Atlanta and kill a mess of doves.

Skeet-
Exactly- why paint or stain it when the elements will weather it naturally in short order. There is a fair bit of aromatic cedar around, and used decades ago on the property for fence posts. Seemed appropriate to utilize these long lasting dead branches for the Mojo tree, and all I wanted were within 20 or 30 ft. of the base.
You can see this thing a quarter mile away.

Doves can see it farther than that, trust me. The higher they are the better, it seems.

I use to have a setup much like that but I used steel conduit and an old antenna on top of it. Placed a 12x12 plywood plate on the ground, has a bolt which stuck up 6" through the plate which the conduit fit over. Had three guide wires coming off the top to stabilize the rig. Placed six decoys on the antenna. Rig was over 20' long so it stood out in the field.
Favorite way to use it was along a hedge row. Find a low area and set it up. You could either shoot the birds as they approached or let them land and build up numbers. Then they would fly into the field and the fun could begin. I liked pass shooting them as they flew towards the decoys. Setup about 30 yards on either side of the rig. Good pass shooting is my favorite.

I use two 6' segments of anodized aluminum tubing connected with an inserted wooden handle from a Home Depot plumber's friend. The bottom tube sits on a stake made from a three foot length of 3/4" conduit flattened and pointed on the ground end. A loop of paracord is threaded through two holes drilled through the midsection of the stake. My booted foot fits through the loop to drive the stake into the usually plowed ground of the dove field. The Mojo fits into the other end without special attachments. It's lightweight and portable. I don't have access to habitat that would justify a permanent mount, but Mike's looks great for the purpose intended. Height is important for not only visibility, but also for safety. The conventional lower mounting of the Mojo with the stake provided brings in birds for sure, but mostly low fliers. Gil

I have a 12 foot "hawk landing" in my garden. I like the one described here much better. Regardless of what I use for bait, a hawk has never landed on my platform. Oh well.
