Yes, Franc, powder can get in through the flash hole when using fine ball powders.

The simple answer now as it was back when is to "NOT" use finne ball powder with these primers. Back in the day I shot quite a few of the Rem #57 primers using Hercules flake powder without a hint of a problem.
Tom is 100% correct, that warning was widely publicized back when the fine grained ball shotgun propellants were brought on the market.

Back in the day, I used a gazillion 57* primers, without any problem. Quite reliable. Was using 700X, however.

Been absent from the forum for a while. Funny that I find this topic first time back. I am the one who came up with the straw bushing idea. Just got an other 500 157's for a dollar this weekend at a gun show. Sure it take a little time but it does work. load and toss. next to free.
