Paid Steve a visit last Tuesday. Sensory overload. Tons of stuff not even listed on his website, which, if you have not seen it, is totally new and just superb. We had a great time, Steve ever the gracious host.

He has a bunch Of Hammer Parkers in, but I think he has errored on the description of one of the most impressive little 20 gauge Parker hammer guns extant. He lists this gun as totally restored by Brad Batchelder. I told him it is totally original in every way:

http://stevebarnettfineguns.com/parker1/parker-grade-3-quality-d-lifter-hammer-gun-20-gauge?rq=1063

Compare to a higher-grade one that is obviously restored:

What say ye?
JR

I beleive The second gun is restored by Bachelder. The first gun is NOT.

I personally am hesitant to say if the coloring on the first gun is original or not. Since it has no wear at all. The wood finish though i am sure to be original.

The second gun has had all finishes restored. You can see that wood finishes are not original. And the colors do look just like that being produced by Bachelder. In oposition to the first gun which has a very different look to it. Mostly in patterning.

Brad spells his last name sans the "t"-- see bro. Dudley's following post for the proper spelling- and Mr. Marson has it right, Brad's work is so accurate very few of the Parker cognoscenti could tell it from factory new-RWTF.

That's the Barnett price structure- also used by Puglisi and Bill Hadfield of Robin Hollow--fine guns indeed, excellent fotos and accurate descriptions from all of these "Carriage Trade" sellers, and high pricing as well. IMO anyway--RWTF

Wouldn't it be real easy to ask Brad rather than speculate? Wouldn't it also be assumed that a specific statement of restoration be taken for truth? Neat guns in any case.

I can imagine your pleasure at handling those two beauties. While I'm not the biggest fan of Parker box locks these two hammer guns are absolute beauties. I'd just go ahead and buy them both, John. He'll probably cut you a deal if you do. The first gun for doves, with it's 28" IC barrels and the second gun for quail, with it's 26 Cyl. bore barrels.

"I can see you now, man, smiling' ......... Awwwww.

The 20 gauge, IMHO, is a full restoration as described. But of course the gun wasn't too far gone to allow for the engraving not to be retouched... except in the case of the screw heads being re-engraved and the slots of the hammer screws tapped down and the slots recut but unfortunately not re-engraved. Brad does some great restorations but unfortunately sometimes the devil is in the details.

I found the same gun in my Lifter album, marked "Refinished by Brad Bachelder and Turnbull Restorations"

Barnett's site

Of interest are the "Laminated Steel" barrels, which have been debated on the PGCA Forum
http://parkerguns.org/forums/showthread.php?t=20330

I believe they are "Toncin" despite the Order Book and Rib, and could be wrong

As are these; Grade 5 above, Grade 4 below
