We had a wonderful 60 degree weekend here in central IL, so Ben and I decided to get the Linden Hornet out and do a little shooting. The most challenging thing was adjusting the scope. Although the optics are great in the old scope, the adjustments are not as convenient as in today's scopes. The elevation is in the scope, and the windage in the base. Once we figured out that the elevation is backwards of today's scopes, it went much better. Here is Ben doing a little testing. You will notice in this picture that the striker is in the fired position. I was trying to catch it just as the shot fired, but I was a little late. This one is just after the rifle had stopped after recoil. Yes, I was proud to see that his eyes were still open. smile (and yes I know, he should be wearing safety glasses)

We were shooting a 40 gr sierra blitz king with 1680 powder. This 3 shot group was fired at 50 yards while getting an initial zero before moving out to 100 yards. The aim point was the letter M at the bottom. Had to make a slight right adjustment and down a little. The windage is made by alternately loosening and tightening opposing screws. It is a little bit of by guess and by golly.

But we eventually get it centered up at 100 yards and shot this. 3 shots in about an inch and a quarter. I have no doubt it will shoot better. The crosshairs in the scope pretty much covered the whole fox's head. I had another 2 shot group that was basically a figure 8 with both shots touching.

And just for fun.

Hope everyone has a great day.

John

Beautiful rifle that looks like it has a whole lot of life left in it. And darn Ben is growing! I remember my first father in law talking about how when times were tough, they used to kill a bunch of those RWBBs for food (he was a rice farmer outside of Alvin, TX and depression era childhood). Looks like Ben and the Linden are capable of collecting a pot of them.

You'd have to be really hungry.

Yep, he is growing up fast, but growing up happy and healthy which we are thankful for every day.

Redwing black birds may be killed when committing agricultural damage or when they create a nuisance. I'm pretty sure that bird was up to no good.

Looks like a great day to me.

I shot a lot of them as a kid and we threw considered them good enough to eat. My grandfather said he shot them in bushel basket quantities to get through the depression.
