Apparently we are over-gunned. Or, I haven't seen a pellet rifle this good.

Air rifles are vastly under rated in the USA.
I own a comparable rifle from Theoben - it outperforms a .22 rimfire at close range. Note the range involved in the link smile
The higher power ones are treated as "firearms" in many parts of the world for good reason.
I'm also biased in thinking that given a choice where you put the bullets is of more importance than the size or number the bullets but that's another story smile

As I recall Lewis & Clark carried along a rather powerful Air Rifle on their little Westward Jaunt.
Growing up in the country where we always butchered our own Hogs these were routinely killed with a .22 RF. On those which I personally shot as best as I recall I always used a .22 LR but have seen them killed with shorts. It was of course always at near muzzle touching range & you had to know exactly where to place the bullet.

Several wild hogs have been taken with pellet guns. In the video below, the guy is only using a spring powered .177 pellet rifle.

Another with I think .22 caliber.

"Air" guns are not your daddy's Daisy Red Riders bb guns anymore. I watch a video of one a while back which shot a .45 bullet that went clean through a large boar from shoulder to shoulder and dropped him within five yards. If you shot one of those and it hit yourself in your eye like your mommy warned you not to do you would be dead.

Air rifles date back to before our Revolutionary War when if the British caught you with one in your possession you would be hanged. In some areas and countries "Air rifles" are treated as real gun in all respects.

In Canada, any air rifle that is over 495 feet per second is treated as a firearm and you need a license to possess.

I had a double barreled air rifle as a kid. It broke open just like a double rifle, to cock it. Sorriest air gun I ever had. Regulation left much to be desired.
