Thinking about driving back to South Dakota with my trusty 16 gauge Ithaca and a pocket full of shells in the fall. Any good bird hunting by Deadwood, South Dakota or surrounding area? Any and all restrictions to note? Got to stop by Saloon #10 to have a picture taken of me with my trusty Ithaca slung across my lap in Wild Bill Hickok's chair. (I did spell saloon right this time, didn't I? )

I think to be official you ought to paste a couple hammers on that fine looking double barrel scatter gun.

I saw a couple ruffed grouse a couple 5 miles south of Deadwood a few years back. Going back in May, I'll see if I can spot any more. I believe they're legal to hunt.

Mountains? Heavily forested? Deadwood is in the Black Hills National Forest any additional restrictions? Unposted land?
How about in and around Sturgis?

Drive a few hours east to the Missouri River, rather than wandering around for that few hours. Get the state count from last year and look where the pheasant concentrations are.

Last time I was there Chuck I hunted near Chamberlain, right where Lewis and Clark crossed the Missouri, a lot of history there, but there was so much posted land.
I was hoping further west I could get away from that.

Well, I figure from the lack of response there isn't any birds over there or any good bird hunting.
Thanks gentlemen for your replies. I'll have to reevaluate.

No birds but maybe a few ruffs in the Black Hills. Sorry. Best populations of phes around the Missouri River.
