I have a Merkel 200E that needs a firing pin replaced. Any recommendations on a quality gunsmith for that work?

I see that Merkel-USA offers some service work. I have reached out to them with the same inquiry. Any experience from the forum with their service work?

I've heard good things about New England Custom Guns. Appears they have a lot of experience with German guns.

Not sure about gunsmiths in the North West, but another option would be Merkel USA in Alabama if it is still in operation. They have this "Merkel Service Package" for $149. You might be able to "bundle the service" and save some money. I don't know. It kind of sad when one needs to ship series produced shotgun across country or half across country to have something minor done to the gun.

As an owner of Merkels, I've used Merkel GSI (now called Styer Arms) to service one of my guns. The gunsmith's name is Herbert and he has been very helpful to me. I understand your concern with shippng your gun, but there's nothing like going to the source I feel. Since it's something like a firing pin, I wouldn't hesitate to use a local trusted gunsmith.

I would not hesitate to use Merkel USA. They replaced a worn "cocking dog" on an old BUHAG (GDR epoch) for me once. Easy to deal with and fair prices.

Mr. Yale is a great fan of German shotguns, especially Merkels, and has worked on many pre-war and post-war German shotguns. I can recommend him without reservation to any work on German guns.
