Tudurgs, "tree hugger" is not how I categorize efforts of the NC, but some reluctant landowners do. Gil

the NC holds some of the wildlife and farm easements on my IWLA chapters conservation farm which is also my skeet trap & sporting club. They also own most of the Virginia barrier islands which are open for fishing if you can get there but not to any kind of development. Good organization.

The NC was the intermediary buyer of river bottom now part of a USF&W refuge that permits hunting for turkeys. It's a huge tract. The land was initially owned by a neighbor who for tax purposes transferred it to the NC before it went to the Feds.

GLS, I have written and negotiated conservation easements/bargain sales, etc. The base easement often presented to the landowner by the conservation organization does not permit timbering or hunting. I've seen a few horror stories when landowners didn't realize what they were signing.
