Just for grins, here's a pic of the new forend for my No. 5 that Dennis Smith is finishing up. The original will go to a member of the board who will put it to good use. I supplied the regia and ebony.

Yep the safety sucks on MFI. So what? Don't use it. I don't. Never have. Never been an issue either.

Good looking gun, Mike. Too bad about the wart.
I was thinking I would post a pic, but didn't get around to it.
I have very seldom used the safety, if only to get a feel for it. The lump does not help IMO. I'm a little slow realizing that M&M actually owns an Ideal with exactly the mod I was describing. Thanks for weighing in and sharing the verdict of actual experience! Mike that's one pretty piece of wood!

Bill, sorry for the misdirection on the Ideal in Mike's picture. Not only do I own an Ideal, but I own the Ideal in the pic, and am the friend Mike hooked up with Kirk. Another modification was replacing the sling. It currently has a non-MF sling terminated with an incorrect hook. (not the correct term) Mike has kindly obtained the correct Napoleon hat hook for me from France and I bought the correct sling (currently lost in a house move). I hope I get the sling straight sometime soon. I'm not sure what to do, if anything, with the bump.
My post was a poor attempt to yank Mike's chain.

Here are some parts in a lot that includes a safety: http://www.naturabuy.fr/lot-pieces-IDEAL-cal-16-item-3435700.htmlI correctly spelled the seller who has numerous Ideal parts, and often a safety: jepercute Don't know if you can search by seller or if he has a "store" on this site like ebay sellers do. Be patient, and check weekly. I think he ships international- the majority don't, but we have ways around that.

Dennis overnighted the No. 5, so here it is with the new forend. He took into account my outsize hands and very long arms, and lengthened it by 3/4 " It looks fabulous, and feels perfect. Will shoot it next weekend.

Congratulations, Mike! That's one beautiful gun--even better that it feels right! Happy shooting! Bill

Mike, looks really nice. Can you take a profile shot of the whole gun? I want to look at it in proportion to the rest of the gun. BTW someone's hands going to slip off that thing!
