Folks,
A hunting trip abroad with an old and dear double rifle has me afraid to make a mistake about how to get it there and back safely. Your advice and thoughts on hard TSA-compliant rifle cases, please.

Ive used an Americase 2 gun case for Argentina several times. It is very compact, has wheels built in. It would work great for a db rifle. I bet Americase also makes a one gun case for double guns, check out their website.

Ok, just looked up my case, the model number is UL-3019. If carrying only one rifle you could pack other stuff (not ammo) in the opposing side or later be ready to take two shotguns to Europe or South America!

Good luck and hope this helps.

Pelican cases are also great protection (i use them for ground travel with other gear) - i do have a two gun Americase

but the TUFFPAK does not scream gun - the only attention i got in an airport in Scotland was from golfers asking me where I was playing

it's round on top so heavy things cannot be stacked on top

you put your gun in your case inside - pad it with your hunting clothes or what ever and nothing moves

there are several good options - just saying the tuff pak worked great for me - I got the one i used from a guy who had used it for multiple trips to Africa and swore by them

Guys, thank you, very much. Big help. One thing I do like about the Tuff Case is that my heavy hunting clothes (October hunt in NW Scotland) and ammo case can go in with the gun. Shooting paper patched bullets means that whatever I bring with me is all that I will be able to get. It'll be my one and only checked bag, and I also like that it is not obviously a gun case, and that it cannot be stacked on. DLH, if this were a domestic flight, the AmeriCase would be fine by me. And I do own a Pelican hard case, complete with pressure valves, but I don't know....its design says "Gun Here."
I think I am sold on the TuffCase, which I will fit with foam at the ends. This old gun is exactly 45 inches long, leaving five inches of space total, or 2.5 inches at each end.
Ok, problem solved! You guys are the best, thank you. Have a great weekend

Remember with a double gun, its best to travel with it broken down. I've heard twice of stocks being broken while being shipped in one piece.

I won a big, two gun Pelican case at a shoot years ago. It is one tough customer. But it's heavy. But it rolls. Until you have to tote it. grin

A Cabela's aluminum two gun case served me well on several overseas flights, too, before getting the Pelican. Still heavy.

I haven't taken it abroad, but I'll reluctantly mention the Sportube. Tough, simple, has roller wheels, but it's a 'ski' case. It looks similar to the Tuffpak in that you figure out your own padding, but you can squeeze in a ton of the misc. bulky clothing that eats up suitcase space, and it can expand quite a bit. It never draws a second look in airports or hotel lobbies. I've really drifted away from gun only type cases. Just thoughts.
