Can anyone tell me about the Swedish Caprinus O/U guns? Quality? Value?
Regards, Jake

Jake-

As you probably know, there was an article in DGJ back in 00 or 01, which covered the development of the Caprinus and subseqently the Flodman gun. While the article is an excellent starting point, it left me with as about as many questions as I started out with...All that being said, I own a caprinus, 27 3/4" barrels, black chromed stainless barrels, weight about 8 lbs.

It is a very well made gun, with a very interesting design- all stainless steel construction, strikers are inline much like a rifles firing pin and uses coil springs, and the gun cocks by the opening of the lever versus the normal way by opening of the action. The gun has selective ejectors that somehow bleed off gas from the chamber to function. There is a very small removable plug in each chamber which when removed, allows gas into the ejector area-I am still not exactly sure how this works and it is not covered in the original owners manual that came with the gun. So if anyone else knows can explain this I would greatly appreciate it!

I hope this helped out! If you find out more info, please post it here as there is very little information out there on these guns!

Tom,
You know more than I. There are a couple of these guns at a local broker's and they look well made and somewhat tough. I am suprised more folks here are not familiar. Jake

I looked at them and got the brochures at an NRA Convention, I think New Orleans in the early 1980s. While they seemed quite innovative, at five large when you could get a 3200 for less then $500, I didn't think they would threaten the Kreigoffs and Perazzis.

I posted links to one being offered last October at Collectors Firearms. The price for one in excellent condition including impressive leather "trunk" was around 3300USD. Dude, that piece of leather was worth at least 800.
It generated no interest here. Most here don't want shallow- actioned O/U SS gun with direct strikers (lock time 2/1000 of a second!). They want pieces well past "best if used by date" capable of digesting 5-6KPSI loads.
PS. That was hard to beat deal.

Barnett has a 12-gauge Flodman, item 7706, with an asking price of $7500.

You need a Volvo to do them justice. Maybe a SAAB would do in a pinch.
