This looked like a nice gun, but there were only two bidders above $3,500 and it sold for $4,550 It has a checkered butt, the serial numbers match and are about 25,000 and the gun would letter at the Cody if a letter was ordered. Link to the completed Gunbroker auction I can guarantee that the losing bidder knows nothing about these guns. That means there was at most one bidder above $3,500 who knows anything about these guns. Ignoring the bids above $3,300 what does the forum think the approximate market value of this gun should be.

Appears to be a good one to me. Graded, beautiful wood, looks original and nicely preserved. Buyer got a great price.

IF an inspection reveals no fatal flaws, I'd be in at $2,500.
This is a perfect example that shows when it comes to pictures, quality is better than quantity.
I bought a gun in much higher condition for not much more than the selling price of this one 12 years ago when these things hit their peak. Oh well. I've enjoyed it, and I don't 'invest'. I shoot.
The buyer must really want a 28" straight grip skeet gun.

I admit to getting caught up in a bidding frenzy against myself
Glad I got out when I did

Glad I got out when I did Good for you. If you're young the time is on your side, because the prices have leveled off for some time now. I predict in not too long from now the prices will start coming down.

That was a very strange/interesting dealer text. Mentioning the terms deluxe and tournament when the gun is neither. When the Model 21 Skeet Gun was introduced 1932-3 it came with 26-inch barrels and was offered in Tournament Grade, Trap Grade and Custom Built Grade. By 1937, Tournament Grade was gone, and the Model 21 Skeet Gun was offered in Standard Grade, Trap Grade and Custom Built Grade. By the 1940 catalog the Trap Grade was gone and there was just the Skeet Gun Standard Grade and the Custom Built Grade. After WW-II the Custom Built Grade was replaced by the Deluxe Grade. Sometime between 1946 and 1950 the Model 21 Skeet Gun got 28-inch barrels. By the 1952 catalog the kidney forearm checkering pattern was replaced with the diamond pattern, and the Deluxe Grade was replaced by, or reverted to, the Custom Built Grade. So, the gun in question is a Model 21 Skeet Gun from the 1946 to 51 era. Nothing Tournament or Deluxe about it. As post WW-II Model 21 Skeet Guns go, there is nothing special about the piece of Juglans nigra in that gun. My 1953 Model 21 Skeet Gun has a much nicer piece.

I think $4550 is a pretty good deal for that gun. It looks right as rain to me for a skeet marked gun. If I would have wanted a 12b with that configuration I would not have hesitated at that price. The terms 'deluxe' and 'tournament' utilized by the seller were not in syntax specifically describing the grade, but may have been intended to have a Freudian connotation to the unsuspecting? Who knows? Nevertheless, that's a pretty nice Model 21.

28" is nice, but it's a 12 with middlin' wood. Seller gave a more conservative condition assessment than we are used to seeing. But think $4500 was right.
