The third set of barrels for my Ideal have been fit, blued, and safely returned to me. I found this four barrel set K 80 case on ebay, and adapted it for my set of three. Still a little work to do on the fit of the stock into its place, but it works well enough for now.

Note the difference in the concave area flowing to the doll's head extension of the plume. Middle tubes are the originals.

Chokes are .000, .007; .005, .015; .024, .048

The last is of course the originals, which also retain their original 65mm chambers. I went this very expensive route primarily because the factory barrels pattern my 3/4 oz reloads so well. It also doesn't hurt to probably have the only Ideal in existence with three sets of barrels. grin

Here she be:

Will pattern them New Year's weekend out at the property, break some targets, and shoot a few with feathers.

Mike, that's very nice. I would say "Ideal", but that sounds too much like a Darne pun. Gil

I'll bet she's a fantastic game gun and that is money well spent.

And please don't tell us how little that Frenchy weighs or how perfectly she is balanced, I just don't want to hear it. smile

A unique and extremely versatile gun! Evidently you resisted temptation to patronize the geographically proximate Briley shop and steadfastly adhered to the purist's approach. Did you change anything such as with an overbore or lengthened forcing cone relative to the originals or are they duplicated exactly?

What keeps everything in place in that case? Do the lids come down and are secured somehow?

Nothing was altered other than the chokes: both of the subsequent sets were brought over from France in the white, never having been fitted to a gun. There was therefore no provenance to affect by opening the chokes to something more practical and useful with other loads and shooting scenarios. Fortunately, both sets of tubes had factory 70mm chambers, so the versatility and utility of the gun has been increased dramatically.

I have one more set of barrels in the white still in France, bought and paid for, waiting for the last of the paperwork to be obtained. This set will go on my No. 5, putting me in the interesting position of having two 16 gauge Ideals with five sets of barrels between them. laugh
