Does anyone know of a source for the European style sling swivels? In my country it's mostly walking to pointed birds and even a light gun becomes tiresome. And I often need both hands free.

I'm sure ERA-Recknagel makes some. NECG imports small sampling of products that are available to gunsmiths and gunmakers in EU. In USA we have FleaBay where one could probably find some taken off old Austro-Hungrian, German, Swedish, Spanish, Italian, Czechoslovak or Russian guns. There are a lot of guns from them countries where swivels have been removed. I would hate to think they were just thrown away. crazy The ones put on stuff from old Eastern Europe might be bit on the rough side though.

But if you want some advice, save some money and buy these from CZ-USA:

I'm with jag on this one. Take-offs are the least expensive and easiest source...Geo

Take offs would be great if you can find them cheap and in good repair. At gun shows in Western Pennsylvania people apparently think they're something special...and price them accordingly. You could watch eBay for who knows how long until you find a good deal, or you could just buy them brand new and blued from CZ for $9 each.

Just saying...

Good point fallschirmjaeger, but where do you get the barrel attachments?...Geo

One thing I've done before is to drill out the original European style swivel eyes so I could use the detachable American style (Uncle Mike's) swivels.

I prefer narrow slings and use exclusively the Recknagel products obtained from NECG. They are high quality, consistently toleranced and have a number of options for wood screws and barrel mounting configurations. Once the finish is stripped they rust blue or case color nicely.

I have been watching for take offs for roughly 15 years and in my small parts cabinet much of that drawer's bottom remains visible.

You might try a French gun. They come with them for the most part.

edit: Stupid comment. sorry.

Joe,
I have take off sling swivels from several Beretta SxSs from the 1950-1970 time period. They are a single screw for the stock and a two screw mount to the lower rib of a SxS. If this sounds like something that will work for you E-mail me @ randloverberg@montana.com.
