The commonwealth games have been awarded to the city of Birmingham, to take place in 2022. Already the organisers have said that there will not be shooting sport events taking place.

As you all know here, Birmingham was the centre of the gunmaking industry in the uk, and one of the world centres of firearms production, much as liege in Belgium or Hartford was in the USA.

They have not said why these events are not going to happen, but i reckon political correctness has reared its ugly head (All guns bad).

Where is the voice of the gun?

Who will speak for the shooting sports?

Will the shooting sports get equal time?

Where will this voice be heard?...and when?

We don't have a public voice. All we can do is make sure we vote at every election.

Discus, hammer, shot put, javelin, are shooting sports only the antis don't know. Presumably they will have archery and fencing too. The PC crowd are so funny.

from a Limey over at trapshooters

Do you really think the Commonwealth Games (CWG) is a big deal in the shooting world? I suspect most World Class shooters around the globe have never even heard of it. The ISSF World Championship ranks above the Olympic Games in my opinion. The CWG has always lacked strength in depth because most of the world's best are excluded not being part of the "Commonwealth"..........the former old "British Empire". Compared with an ISSF World Championship, the CWG is like a garden fete and I've shot in both.

When London won the bid for the 2012 Olympics it caused a bit of a problem because target pistols were banned in the UK at the time. Special arrangements had to be introduced so overseas competitors could even get hold of their handguns at the shooting venue. The test of seeing what the reaction in England would be if the Olympics were ever to be awarded there again is above my pay grade. By that time, I suspect the UK will be a Muslim dominated country, so who knows.

I used to laugh to myself when I heard people say
"The world's gone mad ! "
Seems they were probably right.

WtS, if they do become a Muslim dominated country will we get events favored by a small portion of that group? Like beheading events, car bomb events or vest bomb events?

Well the organisers of the Olympics want the shooting sports, apart from air guns possibly, gone. They are also considering making pole dancing an Olympic sport also.

So to me, yes the world is slowly and surely going mad. Its a world now which is run by the number of likes you get on bookface, instagram or twitter.
