What is the best adhesive to glue a reproduction trade label in the lid of a canvas and leather case? The lining inside the lid is green felt and the trade label is heavy stock paper, not leatherette.
I will greatly appreciate any input on this.

Tightbond, genuine hide glue. You can get it on Amazon. Brown plastic bottle.
I have used it on paper labels and it does not bleed through. Place something flat on the label, then some weight and let set for 24 hours.

I just use Elmer's Glue All. It's water sovent and if you get overruns just wipe it off. Plus easy to clean interior if you change labels.

The traditional adhesive for fixing makers labels into Brit vintage gun cases is and was "Rabbit skin glue". A number of good reasons why, it does not stain the paper, easily reversible for changing labels, easily removed from the case internal Baize without staining, has a grip second to none can last a hundred plus years. A lot of modern adhesives such as pva are not reversible though a good quality wall paper paste works well and of course can be reversed.
The only lessons in my life I truly did learn from where the ones I paid for!

I've used an adhesive sold at craft stores that comes in sheet form comprised of a double stick adhesive. I've used it for leatherette as well as heavy paper trade labels and it works well for me. I have removed it without damage to label or case lining. After being weighted for a couple of hours, it lasts and looks good.

3M spray adhesive is what most pro’s use.

I used 3M spray adhesive and it has held up well. I've not tried to take it off though.

Please, please, please use something that can be soaked off. I am not familiar with 'Elmer's Glue' but can confirm that all the animal glues that I have used can be soaked off with warm-hot water and a little patience.
My biggest nightmare when presented with a case to reline, re-label or adjust is PVA (white glue). It might work fine for a fix but is NOT reversible and is a real pain to remove from anything you want to reuse.
I have been bad-mouthed for giving this advice before and would appreciate not getting it again!

Toby I think I have all ready put my neck out by saying just that! Use animal glue pva is not a good idea at all. May be it is the live for today outlook and tomorrow can look after its self. Though any person who has tried to remove a label fitted with modern adhesives then just left with a hand full of paper pulp will understand our comments.

Elmer's glue is white glue as far as I know.
