I am seeking information on the Hammerless models mfg'd by N.R. Davis & Sons that have floorplates in the frames. I have three different variants all with removable floorplates. The data I have shows the frames with floorplates being mfg 1896-1913 and models with damascus barrels mfg 1905 and before.
Batch numbers were used from 1896-1914, then serial numbers starting at #1.
Below are pictures of three varying types/models of the Davis Hammerless models:
Batch number 6, square cross-bolt, under bolt, twist barrels with light scroll engraving on sides, top, floorplate and forend metal. Note position of firing pin retaining screw and long barrel lug.
Another Batch number 6, double bolted, damascus barrels. Note again, position of firing pin retaining screws and shorter barrel lug. This gun has a different cocking hook than the cross bolted gun.
Batch number 29, double bolted, fine damascus barrels, A shorter barrel lug but a screw in it. The same cocking hook as above model but different location of firing pin retaining screws.
What are the proper Model designations and years of manufacture for these three Davis Hammerless doubles?
Thanks,
John
