I have a little 20 gauge Fox that I would like polished, reblued and case colored. Who would you recommend? Ive had Malcolm Clark and Turnbull recommended - any others?
Thanks,
Jeff

I believe Fox's are not case colored the traditional way but has Cyanide colors. There are people who do it I believe. I am sure someone will come along with some real answers.

Depends on the era. Post 1915 was cyanide colored.

If you like case color over Cyanide colors then get what you like. I think the change was due to cost more than durability or looks. As a refinished gun you should do what you like to it. If you like a oil finish then do it as well. There is no code of the west demanding we restore to exact factory conditions.

I have had Pete Mazur of Grass Valley, CA work on my Fox guns (;and others). He is an incredibly good metal finisher...and gunsmith.

Is your Fox a graded gun or Sterlingworth?

'Tis but a lowly Sterlingworth, but it has lovely 30" barrels. I've already restocked it with a fabulous piece of Turkish, so I want the metal to look nice as well. I've seen pics of Mr. Mazur's work and it is fabulous, but I don't think I want to wait years before I get my gun worked on. I know some shops have stopped doing cyanide case colors because of the danger and the cost with disposing of chemicals. I prefer bone charcoal case color anyway.

Well - sometimes Pete does take a while to get through the back log. Sounds like a nice gun. Good luck with the project.
