If you seek low pressure 2 1/2 #5/#6 12ga hunting loads, RST has fired up a batch of paper roll crimped 1 1/16 oz loads for the fall. I used these loads to great effect in South Dakota last year:

Many thanks Owen as those are a favourite of mine also, especially in #5s. From where might you have ordered? Straight from RST?

Cheers,

Owen, just curious. Why do you prefer the Paper Roll Crimped over the regular RST 2.5 shells?

FWIW, I have used RST shells for years and IMO they are great!

Thanks!

I started my shooting life with paper shells. It is nice to know there is an option to use them again...Geo

Nah, I remember too well how they would swell up when ya got'em wet.

On the other hand I've learned not to hunt in the rain anymore.

Gentlemen, Yes I ordered directly from RST. I prefer plastic myself, but all they had in stock was paper, so I jumped on them. It is very hard to get this load, especially in #5, so I was ecstatic to place the order.

Interestingly, the paper hulls have a 200 psi pressure advantage over the plastic. Per RST, Paper = 5900, Plastic = 6100.

You can order them thru the online portal. FYI, Julie is no longer with RST, so don't try to email her!

Paper absorbs more of the combustion heat than does the plastic, which lowers the pressure.

Out of curiosity what is the average cost of a box of the RST shells where you live, including delivery?

I ordered 7 boxes last night, mostly in 1 oz loads. I live in the same state that RST is located in and shipping was over $25...

Ive had best luck calling them and placing my order. Last time I called they were able to tell me when they were scheduled to load certain shells next and wrote down my information and what I wanted. Couple weeks later they called me up to take card information and shipped them out. I will say the shipping estimates online were far higher than what was actually billed and they acknowledged that as well.

Just keep in mind that with shipping its better to order whole cases for economy of scale. Its almost as much shipping for 12 boxes as it is 24.
