Diggory is just as likeable and gracious a person, in person, as he is in his writings. I met him some years ago when he was asked to speak about English guns at a gun auction in Columbia, SC. I was interested in a Colt double, and asked him to look it over and offer his thoughts. He did, most graciously, but managed to slip in a subtle reminder that it was far from being the quality of a good English double.
He had just flown in from across the pond and his luggage had been lost in process. He had been loaned a sports coat for the evening which, though he was appreciative of, was not exactly his cup of tea. I bought his first book that evening, after having him sign it for me. A picture was taken ............so that he never forgets that sport jacket.
Both of us were somewhat younger when that pic was taken. And, no...... that is not the Colt he is holding.
