I have a dim recollection that some Schuetzen targets were measured using "string measurement", which was the length of a string from the target center to the center of the hole made by each shot, with the lengths added to get a total score, but I don't see how this might have worked using this device.

Mike Petrov would’ve probably known exactly what this device was for. He loved everything Schuetzen. It’s a shame he’s gone now.:-(

I think it's for measuring hole centers.
Place target on turntable
Turn crank to measure

But I could be mistaken.

Out there doing it best I can.

Try Collectors Firearms in Houston. The owner (whose name I've forgotten) has the most top level schuetzen gun collection I have ever seen. If you ever have the chance to get to the backroom where the owner's deck sits you will see a collection of guns that will stun you in its depth and breath.

A local gun museum ( Davis Gun Museum Claremore Ok) has consigned a bunch of items to the auction house to raise funds for continued operation. There are quite a few items related to Schuetzen competition. This item was included in the lot. I can see the probability of using this for target scoring based on the "total bullet string from center" method.

Thanks to all!!
Ken

It has “3 brass dies marked 32, 38, and 45” all standard bullet diameters that could be placed in the holes in the target and the “turntable” rotated until the stylus touches the brass die? Very cool!
