Hi lads,
Its been about 15 years since I sent or got a shot gun in the mail.
I have spent a good while this morning, googling various versions of the above title, with no great luck. Everything seemed to be about handguns or ak47s.
I remember when buying a gun from outside NH, I had to give the sending seller a copy of my receiving NH dealers license.

I'm in NH, if I find an out of state buyer for my shotgun,
1) MUST I go through a licensed dealer on my end (as the seller)?
Or
2)can I just ship it to his Licensed dealer ?, would I need a copy of the buyers receiving dealers license ?
I remember shipping guns to Abe Chaber through UPS without any paperwork ( I think)
but that was for evaluation or work, not sale.
Boy, the old memory ain't what it used to be , thanks for any clarification on this.
Cheers & thanks
Franc

Some dealers need a DL, best to send the gun to the dealer and if he asks send a copy. Double check the dealers license number before shipping!

You can mail direct to the buyer's FFL. You will need to include a copy of your driver's license for the FFL's record books. If the gun was made prior to 1898, it can be mailed directly to the buyer. Long guns can go via post office/ups/ or FedEx, although mail is generally the cheapest. I hold an FFL, feel free to PM me your phone number and we can discuss it via phone if that's easier for you.

Did you sell the Greener already?!?

Federal Law requires you send a post 1898 gun to a dealer. Some dealers require it arrive from a dealer, but this is NOT a Federal law. State laws vary. A gun is an antique if made before Jan 1, 1899. The BATFE does not even want them listed in a dealer's log book. They are NOT a gun but an antique (to the Feds).

Some states are FFL to FFL only...Florida, Illinois and most all the liberal states.

Pre 1898 should be exempt most states.

Note that Pete has it correct on the Antique cutoff date. & 1898 gun "IS" an antique, an 1899 gun "Is Not".

The Colt 1883 was discontinued in 1892. I had one that lettered as sold in 1898. If that had been 1899, I wonder if that took precidence. I doubt it as that info would not be readily available as mfg date vs serial number.
