Many thanks Miller for the effort. How is the top of the locks folded into the contour of the wood of the stock?

Raimey;
I have only had the lock plates off once since I had it & that was probably around 40 years ago. I simply do not recall now if the top of the plate actually bends inward or if it was just thick enough to be beveled at the top.

As can be seen in the top view over some 120+ years the wood has likely shrunk a bit leaving the plate a bit proud at the top.

Looking at the two guns though it would seem quite obvious to me that the Spalding in question was indeed made by Clabrough.

Nice to have a chat today, Rhys; like I said, Precision Reloading is where I get new un-primed cases from, reckon on $1/case by the time you land them here; there may be people in the NT with a few fired ones, being that they're used on the magpie geese up there. Wadding courtesy of a mallet, 20mm wad punch (your diameter may be slightly different), cork floor tiles etc.
That Spalding bros. seems to me a ripper of a gun.
It may also be a very good investment if the game Regs go where I think they will to catch up with the Act - a double 10 that can legally throw lead at ducks would be quite a prize! Failing that,
cape barren geese have been known to bow to the might of the 10!
