I want to use brass rods and epoxy to reinforce a broken stock repair. My thoughts are to use one angling up from the bottom of the pistol grip and one from front angling parallel to grip. Currently, I'm looking at 1/8" rod. Is that large enough? Should I drill the holes slightly oversize so as to be able to get plenty of epoxy surrounding the pins? Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Since you should drill the holes from inside the break, so they can't be seen; drilling them a little oversize should help with alignment.

Thanks. The stock has been repaired - I just want to reinforce the repair. The pins will not be seen as the pistol grip cap will cover one and the other will be in the head of the grip and covered by the action. Is 1/8" rod sufficient?

Cpa, in my opinion, no. 1/4" steel or more if it will take it, and use some all-thread to give the epoxy more purchase.

Just my opinion w/o seeing the break.

If it would be appropriate to the break why not countersink a screw under the gripcap. Drill a hole large enough on the underside to allow the screw to reach the break without interference then drill the rest of the of the way to allow the screw to grip the wood.

It might be, I would likely choose something from my "junk pile" of machine screws that looks like it will work. In other cases I've chosen 3/16" threaded sections with "head" clipped off. I like to use threaded sections to get a mechanical bond as well as chemical. You will be a better judge of what you need, than I.

Not having seen the break though I do seem to think that 1/8" Brass rod is a little on the thin side because in those diameters Brass rigidity is rather feeble. If it has to be that thin Stainless steel has far more rigidity and strength. What ever metal you choose it would be advantageous to draw file the rod to provide a key to improve the Adhesive to metal grip.

Check Brownell's 080-565-125 for the complete kit or buy the pins separately.
