She was all I had left, and the only true unconditional love I've known since my mother died.

I too often indulged her fixation on food, and thus shortened her life. She was in the emergency pet hospital for less than 24 hours- she declined so fast. Diabetes, high fever and glucose count, internal bleeding. Vet said this condition is the sickest of the sick, and I needed to step up to the plate.

I buried her about 30 minutes ago. Some of you hunted with her, wanted you to know.

Mike

Mike, sorry to hear about it. It never gets easy losing a four-legged friend. Outside of losing a human loved one, there is no greater loss. Gil

Mike,
I'm sorry for the loss of your partner who shared the bird fields with you. My the memories that you shared always be with you. Will you be bringing up another to share with?

Hurts too much right now to think about that. It was very difficult just to post that photo of her in the Sandhills.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Looks like she was a wonderful bird dog and companion. Beautiful picture of her.

They say the best remedy for the death of an old loyal dog is a new puppy....

I don't know. Some things cannot be replaced.

It does get better after a while though.

Mike, Im so sorry to hear this very sad news. I know how close you both were to each other and I witnessed many times her skill afield. Consistently more dependable than either you or I. Ill be thinking of you both. Please take care.

I have been where you are. Ill be there, again, and I have signed on to that misery with my eyes wide open, and, while being stone, cold, sober.

You have my deepest sympathy. It isnt worth much.

My Mom had an American water Spaniel, I believe Dustin did as well. Super friendly family dogs that hunt.

I miss all my dogs. Almost every day

Take care of yourself.

Best,
Ted

My condolences. There is little that can be said that will take away the pain, but hold on to those memories for all you are worth, and then she is never truly gone.
