Very very crude engraving of top/bottom and not done by an engraver of quality guns. Would anyone other than an amateur engrave top and bottom wrongly situated?

That was sort of my question? Maybe the penmanship of a mechanic?

Raimey rse The quality of the engraving brings to my mind what American constables refer to as: "jail house tatoos" ---usually on found on former prisoners hands.

Looks to me like the functional embellishment requested by the owner or his loader after they were delivered.
If you have more than one gun, or a two barrel set, I could easily see why it would be important to know your patterns when setting up in the butt.
Out there doing it best I can.

Got it now. That is a faux pas for sure, but it does convey the info needed. Otherwise, the actual engraving on the receiver looks fine to me. Not a bad gun. JR

Couple of things to consider. Per the load label in the case it is requested "borings on the lumps" Label looks legit. Good Cylinder could be shop name for Improved Cyl. The layout of bottom first then top would reflect firing order of a single non selective trigger. The large ,rather simple typeface may be for clarity/ease of reading. Interesting gun . I'm sure the Factory could confirm.
