A friend has an Ithaca 28ga Flues gun. He has asked me how many of these in this gauge were made. I don't have any idea. How about any of you?...Geo

It might be in Walts book. I do remember 28 gauge NID in all grades totaled 415 according to Ithaca early 1960 reports. Maybe Walt will see this and chime in before I can get home to check his book(s).

Geo., no excuse. You ought to buy a backup copy. I know where mine is but it will take a lot of digging to get to them. Yes I have two. But right now Im in the middle of a basement remodeling, along with a new fence and a new patio in my spare time. All must be done before opening day of Dove season because after that date it will be October before I will get back to them. A man must have his priorities.

I doubt anyone knows how many Flues 28-gauge guns were made.

Thanks Jon. My copy of the ithaca book is loaned out...Geo Worst is It is loaned out to the guy asking me the question. I did get the chance to tell him I'd be happy to try and look it up, if he'd only remember to return my cotton picking book!...Geo

That's downright funny! The numbers are there, at least for the graded one's. I've a friend that had a grade 1 and a half. He no longer has that gun, but he does have my copy of Walt's book.

The reason I have two copies is that I lent one to a friend who kept it so long I forgot I lent it to him. I saw one pop up on EBay for a low price and bought it. Later he returned my first copy.

There were about 45000 NIDs produced, with 415 being 28-gauges. So, 28-gauge production was .9%. The Flues 28-gauge was introduced in 1912. Flues serial numbers from 1912 through the end covered 181865, but that serial number run included some NIG & Two-Bolt hammer guns and the Flues Single Barrel Trap Guns. So, would 175000 be reasonable? .9% of 175000 = 1575.

I forget the dates now, but when was skeet shooting introduced?. The 28 was likely more popular due to that cause during the NID era than the flues era, so percentages may be a good bit lower for the flues.
