Rather than add these images to a previous thread, I thought I would
start a new one with a more descriptive title and put a link in the other thread to this. For reference, the earlier thread is here.

J.V. Howe rifle found at Missouri Valley Show

Here are some pictures from Dan of the J.V. Howe rifles that he owns, these show elements of style that are relatively uncommon and can aid in identifying J.V. Howe stocks.

the use of circular punches at the tips of checkering patterns

the use of stippling and circular punches at the borders of
checkering patterns.

use of inlays to cover up knots.

These are my descriptions, I am sure that Dan can add more information and corrections if need be. I will add some more pictures of my rifle to show similarities.

His checkering style and use of stippling is pretty distinctive. The checkering surprises me, he must have had trouble mastering the art, there are some really crooked lines, especially in the first three pictures.

I think the sights on Freds rifle and the express sights on the Springfield above are very nice and prove his metal working skills. As to stock design and execution of making and finishing the stock, not so much
