Is anyone loading Cheddite paper 12 ga. hulls? Any published loading data? I'd liked to put up some with card and fiber wad column. I do load them with black powder and just wondering if there is any smoke less data available.

The Cheddite looks like a Federal hull--very close knock-off. Don't know why not use Federal data?

Cheddite papers use the same plastic basewad that they use in their plastic hulls. Federal paper hull basewads are rolled paper which reduces pressure compared to a plastic base wad.
When I have loaded paper tube Cheddites I use data for their plastic tube hulls.
All of the plastic tube loads I use are rather low pressure to begin with.
Just what I do. YMMV.

In the dark past I loaded a few using the same info used on a Fed Paper. As I remember recoil was much heavier than a paper Fed., the walls were much thinner and the base wad was plastic.

These don't include fibre wads, but the 2012 Alliant Reloaders Guide has these loads for 12ga Cheddite hulls. I've used these 1oz loads in my guns with paper Cheddites with good results on clays.

12ga Cheddite Hull
1oz Shot
20 grains American Select Powder
12S0 wad
Ched 209 primer
6200 PSI
1200 FPS

12ga Cheddite Hull
1oz Shot
21.5 grains Green Dot
12S0 wad
Ched 209 primer
6900 PSI
1200 FPS

There are 1 1/8oz versions of these loads using the RXP 12 wad that bump the pressure up to 7600-7800 PSI. Hope this helps. ---Matt

Thank's Matt Those look to be worth investigating. I have both those powders and a few 12SO wads. Could one drop down to 7/8 oz with a card filer in the cup for a good crimp? My 16 is a light back action hammer gun and some 1 oz loads do feel a bit heavy for the clays course.

Eric; note those listed loads are for a 12, not a 16. The 16 gauge has about 82% of the capacity of a 12 gauge so for an equivalent load bot Shot & Powder charges would need to be cut to that proportion. This is of course not a recommended loading protocol.

I did notice that. My inquiry is based on the fact that I have both 12 and 16 papers on hand and am looking for some good data for these. Sorry if my reply was a bit confusing as I only downed 1 cup of coffee prior to posting.

That particular guide does not list any 7/8oz 12ga loads so I can't give you any published info on that. Check Alliant's website.

I also made my original response a little more clear about the fact the load data is for 12ga. I should have been clear about that to begin with. ----Matt
