Clays shooing (to hopefully simulate your quarry) should be a precursor to a much anticipated hunt. That is assuming you want to scratch down at least a brace or two.

I practiced all summer before I shot driven Grouse for the first time.

There are a number of drills you can do that will really improve your success ratio.

In preparation for hunting Prairie Grouse was which is similar to shooting walked up red grouse, its the same level of preparation. I like longer barrels and a lighter gun for birds that fllush 30 yards plus away, using low gun trap as my preferred training technique.

You cant go wrong using guns on pegs to find your outfitter.

Out there doing it best I can.

I can't really. I am invited by friends and not many places do walked up. Best bet would be a UK sporting agency.

It is challenging - which is what makes it interesting and exciting; the walking can be challenging - and walking uneven ground with a gun and watching/listening all the time demands a lot of concentration - as does keeping a straight line - and being 100% sure it is safe before every shot, but you have to be quick! You might walk an hour or more between shots, or you might get two or three in a few minutes.

Amen to the "fine dog" part of upland hunting. It is my limited understanding that our British friends call the driven bird events "Shooting" and what we call upland bird hunting- "Rough Shooting" either way, the dogs make the day complete- RWTF
