All of the Hoffman Arms Co. Ardmore built rifles I've seen were built on Mauser actions. The other day I saw a Hoffman Arms built rifle based on a Winchester 95 lever action. Fancy wood, checkering, quarter rib, banded front sight, all typical Hoffman style. I've never heard of a Hoffman Arms lever action rifle. Has anyone else ever seen one. I apologize for not having photos of it to share. Chris

CD, I expect Hoffman did what the other custom gun companies had to do when the depression clamped down: work on whatever came in . Griffin and Howe and Sedgley turned out any number of less elaborate projects just to keep the wolf from the door.

Billy, what sort of reading comprehension is this? He didn't say that this Winchester Model 1895 Hoffman custom rifle was any less elaborate than the bolt action Hoffman rifles:

It sounds more like someone who had the money got Hoffman to build a nice rifle using the action of their choice. Too bad we don't get to see a picture of it.

Hoffman was not founded as a custom gun operation. They cataloged their wares. That they would rework a 95 Winchester to their standards and a client's desires is not unusual under the strain of the times.

Not sure why youd say that. Thats exactly what they were founded as.

Shane, What I meant is that Hoffman offered an array of guns and rifles based on imported components. Their catalogs listed a variety of options, but , to the best of my recollection, didn't say they'd rework your 1895 Winchester. My main point was just that they were forced to do anything they could to keep the doors open as the country fell into depression. Griffin and Howe and Sedgley were in the same boat.

In the May 1, 1924 issue of American Rifleman J.R. Mattern wrote the article "By Hoffman - of Cleveland"

"Your gun "By Hoffman" maybe a common Winchester, Savage, Remington or Krag"

I like the part, "may be a common Winchester..."
