I just acquired a 1950's Gallyon 12ga. So if this post is in the wrong forum please move it elsewhere or remove it. I am new to shotgun ownership and especially to the SXS community. I just wondered what kind of shot I need to be looking for for such a weapon. It is marked 2 1/2" nitro proof 1 1/8. Thank you in advance for any and all help. Any suggestions in a good source of such ammo would be greatly appreciated also.

Welcome to the forum, Gary.
For your Gallyon, one good source will be RST (rstshells.com).
Safe cartridges that can be shipped to your door.
Enjoy your new gun.

Gary, Welcome to the forum and double guns, enjoy the ride! If you are unfamiliar with SXS's, having the gun looked over by a good double gun smith would be prudent. Karl

Gary, Welcome to the forum and I second Jeremy's recommendation. Have used RST's for years in my 2 1/2" chambered guns. Nice folks, just give them a call or drop them an email with the info on your gun (chokes, barrel length, what your going to hunt, etc.) and they will let you the best round to use.

RST are the best for classic guns. No loss of performance but kind to our old bangers!

I am currently away from home but will post some pictures as soon as I get back. It does need a little TLC and a good cleaning but on face value looks in good shape for something over twice my age. I did find out from Gallyon and Sons ltd themselves it was made in 1953 and sold the same year, the cheapest production version they made but still hopefully a great piece of English SXS history.

Gary, welcome. A good thing about Brit guns is that the lowest original quality (OQ) guns are still quite serviceable.
