I have seen examples of ultrasonic cleaning of actions and small parts, sometimes with spectacular results. Does anyone have experience with ultrasonic cleaning of barrels- specifically damascus barrels in a larger ultrasonic cleaner? L & R makes this one that will accept parts up to 36"

Unfortunately it is well out of my budget at $10K+. Do you know of anyone that would offer this service?

I checked a number of ultrasonic tanks at the ShotShow this year. The mfgers were using them on barrels. No one I talked to had cleaned Damascus barrels. As you indicate about the least expensive one was over$5000

I have an L&S that's about 10x7x6, I cleaned a 20" rifle barrel by putting it in on a diagonal and then reversing it so you could get by with a smaller unit.

Yes, the initial expense is the issue. I am just curious if anyone has any info as to how well they work on damascus barrels and if anyone knows of a shop with this capability. As a side note there is a used one on ebay.

al,
Since you have researched ultrasonic cleaners, did any of the reasonable priced ones seem to be adaptable to a longer tank? or extensions on the factory tank. Maybe you could tell how it would work by cutting a short section of an orphan set of barrels and trying it out. BTW, my "old folks" came from Salem.

I use one that Lyman sold for a while. Works great on all types of barrels. Rust blue water stays cleaner longer with barrels US cleaned.

Mark,

Does ultrasonic cleaning bring out any of the damascus pattern?

Mike,

I have not found an ultrasonic cleaner that can be adapted to a larger tank.
