I've bent a number of stocks on guns that didn't have a through bolt. Now I have a Dickinson 410 made in Turkey with a through bolt and would like to bend it. I know it's done at the state trap shoot in a couple of hours. Just wondering is the hole enlarged before it's bent so with a loosing of the through bolt it will slide up into it's new place ? Or is the bolt just left bent ? I'm not sure of the procedure. If the hole is enlarged, what type of tool is used ? Thanks for any help. Paul

I never open the hole or bend the bolt. I bend through bolt stocks like any other, with one exception, I clamp the head the the stock together if bending for cast. Hope that helps,
Steve

Steve, that is perfect advice. I do the same based on advice I got here a few years ago but I learned the hard way about clamping the head of the stock.

If it makes you feel better, I learned that one the hard way too.

Do you want a little more drop on the Dickinson, Paul? That's what I'd like to have on mine.

a C-clamp with a thick piece of leather between the clamp and the stock.

Thanks for the advice. Yes I wanted more drop. I now lay the gun on a table with the stock sticking out and put a bag of shot on the muzzles and one on the top of the stock at the butt. A couple of heat lamps on the wrist that's wrapped with a oil coated sock that's tied on. I use to use a fixture but that lead to a cracked stock or two because I was sometimes forcing the stock to bend. Now it just bends on it's own. Or doesn't - without the cracks. I think I'll clamp the stock even though it won't be a bend for cast. As for the opening up the bolt hole - I was just thinking about if I wanted to remove the stock in the future with a bolt being bent and any trouble it would be. Guess that's a bridge to cross in the future.

Paul, maybe I misunderstood but the stock bolt won't bend.

I have replaced the bolt with a rod, threaded on both ends, and a nut and washer to replace the bolt head.
The rod is threaded into the action and bent as required for the stock hole.
Has worked for me. but I am only a dm coloni...
