A far as I know, Remington was the only manufacturer to mill their ribs integral with the barrel -- Model 11/Sportsman, Model 10, Model 17, Model 29, Model 31, Model 32.

[quote=KY Jon I can not think of a single major non US made pump gun unless it is a modern, black/camo type gun or copies of older guns with the exceptions of a few Turkish made guns. [/quote]

Manufrance Lasalle:

https://www.gunauction.com/buy/7194535

Sold by Colt, Stevens, several hardware stores, and likely a few others. It may be the only commercial pump shotgun that was ever proofed at a government run proof house. The Lasalle has an aluminum frame, and is a well designed pump shotgun.

Roy Weatherby imported a Japanese built pump shotgun, it was called the “Patrician” in that era. It looked heavy. Never handled one, so, can’t say for sure.

A coworker years ago brought me a Remington 870 pump, that had been a Christmas gift to him in 1968. Coworker was a manic waterfowl hunter, up until his hip was replaced. The gun never left the duck boat, was stored with an oar, and the complaint was “it quit working”. Yea, it did. It was packed with 35 years of spent powder, cat tail slew, mud, feathers, and sandwich debris. The owner had allowed his young daughter to carve her name in the butt stock, and the finish was lifting off the wood. The owner seemed stunned to learn you were supposed to clean a shotgun. I should add that this guy ended up a Vice President at a medium sized mid western insurance company for a few years.
I cleaned it, lubed it, tested it, and returned it. I have no doubt it is still next to the oar in that duck boat, waiting to go out another time.

Best,
Ted

Lots of pump guns manufactured in Japan, but most were copies or repros of American guns. I have a very nice Howa 20ga pump that I inherited from my father in law, don’t know if it’s a copy or an original, but it’s probably 40-50 years old. Pretty sure Howa manufactured pumps and semis that were sold here under the S&W brand.

I have a near as I can tell unfired Remington 29 with a matted barrel (changed from milled rib). I can't bring myself to use it. It has a factory Cylinder barrel.

My 16 ga 870 has the milled rib. I must confess that I do like it. Not sure when it was made but I bought it around 2005-6. One day I'll pull it out of the safe and research the serial number. Right now it's back behind the 2 barreled guns next to the '97 Winchester, Model 12 and several newer 870's.

That is a beautiful example of a Model 29. but, it is a matted barrel, not a milled raised solid rib. Here is a diagram from a 1939 vintage Model 11/Sportsman brochure --

One thing that has amazed me is that Remington charged the same price for a Matted Top Surface of Barrel as the did for a Raised Solid Matted Rib --

When the Model 870 Wingmaster was introduced, the Model 870 AP "Standard' Grade had a plain barrel. The Model 870ADL "De Luxe" Grade had a barrel with a matted top surface. A ventilated Rib was an extra cost option. With the introduction of the Model 11-48/
Sportsman-48 and the Model 870 there is no more mention in the Remington catalogs of ribs being manufactured integral with the barrel.

Thanks for the clarification Dave!

"Matted top surface of barrel, extra $8.00,- got it.

Great information.

So maybe mine appears to be a "Riot Grade" since it has a short cylinder barrel?, but has a upgraded matted rib? Curious as to what your thoughts are on that.
