I have a beautifully, Turnbull, restored Parker 20 gauge DHE that I would love to use for upland game. The problem is that I am concerned about the muzzle of the barrels. I measured minimum wall thickness and they are in the .025-.028 range so, they are good in that respect however, the wall thickness at the muzzle look so thin that I am concerned that I may inadvertently dent the barrels. I was thinking about having a set of removeable Briley fitted tubes made in 28 gauge. I figured that they would help to stiffen the original barrels while only weighing about 10 ounces. My question is has anyone on the site used these and what did you think of them? Were they easy to install and remove? Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance for the help and knowledge.

I do not believe that full lenght tubes are going to address your desire to protect the very end of your gun's muzzle. These tubes end about 1/2" from the point you are trying to protect. I have 2 sets of 12 gauge to 20 gauge Brileys that are for 28" barrel guns. Both sets have a total lenght of 27.5". The MWT you quote for your gun should be suffient for shells like RSTs. There are any number of craftsman that could repair the ends of those tubes should you dent them out of round. Bad dents occur in different locations.
Out there doing it best I can.

I was not aware that they ended short of the barrel. I had assumed that theyu had run to the end. Am I overthinking this, or is it still a good idea in order to protect the barrels?

briley will most likely make you a set of flush tubes for this fine gun...sucks that the barrels are so thin...
keep it simple and keep it safe...

10 extra ounces is a lot of extra weight at the end of a long day of upland hunting, esp if for Ruffed Grouse. I’d roll the dice and leave the Parker alone if it were mine. Chances are, and if you take care, the gun will be fine. Like CZ said, should something bad happen and you dent a barrel, it could likely easily be fixed by a lot of gunsmiths out there.

I think if you do some research you will find most gunsmiths think .025-.028 at the muzzle is fine.

My wife has a set of 28 and 410 tubes for her Pre-Type 1 20 gauge Citori. The tubes are easy to install and remove. So that is not an issue.
Briley tubes are good and will cost a fair bit. They can and will do almost anything that your need. Are you going for screw in chokes or a fixed choke?
Me? I would shoot it as is and enjoy the experience.

Get a fitted set of featherweight tube that are fitted to the gun and sense you are going to send it there you might as well buy the 410's. Same weight as 28.

Briley tubes for 20 ga to 28ga have to be fixed due to diameters of 28ga tube too close to 20ga interior diameters. But if barrels are thin at muzzles it might permit this. I have tubes for my K20 ou,easy to use & pretty effective.
