Hello
I have a Drilling by Aug. Jung circa 1936 that is 16x16 over 8x57 and shoots far to the left. One must sight about 3/8 in. left of the front bead to get it to shoot to poa at 25 yds. The barrels are free of dents and pits and appear to be unbent. The rifle shoots to poa with the sight in the center of the rib. The bore is .667 in. and the left barrel constriction is .040 in. (xtra full). The right barrel constriction is .034 in. (full). I am shooting Remington game loads with 1 Oz. of shot.
What can cause this problem and how can it be corrected? I discussed this issue with Briley's and they said that they don't work on drillings because too many things can
cause off shooting.
Regards

How does your crown look? What do you mean by " The rifle shoots to poa with the sight in the center of the rib" ? You mentioned needing to compensate with the front sight so that part had me puzzled.

The crown appears to be perfect. It is puzzling that the rifle shoots correctly but the shotguns shoot off.

Call Dean Harris at Skeet's Gun Shop in Talequah, Oklahoma and discuss it with him. Barrel work is all he does and he is the best. 9184564749. He is capable of adjusting the chokes to move the pattern.

try some different loads, different velocities and shot weight.

Is the muzzle square? If it is then I'm with Stevie try as many loads as you can change weight and velocity

OK, here goes, the drillings are calibrated to mass and speed of projectile.
Try 1 1/8 ounce light loads and see if the pattern moves right
If not on center, try a bit faster load of 1 1/8 ounce.

All this assumes you are a right hand shooter and the chambers are 70mm.

Please report back smile

Mike

p.s. you can also calculate the foot pounds of the rifle load and get in the ball park by
shooting a like foot pound load from the shot barrels, perhaps, possibly, maybe, we shall see ! smile

A 1936 Drilling is not likely to have 70mm chambers, unless rechambered, and if so, should have been reproofed. Smart money is on it still having 65mm chambers. Try shooting a Brenneke over the rifle sights at about 40 meters and see what happens.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. In answer to some of the questions:
" The rifle shoots to poa with the sight in the center of the rib" By this I meant the rear site in the center of the rib. When sighting straight down the rib the rifle shoots to
poa.
The muzzle is square.
The chambers are 70mm. I measure 2 and25/32 in. to the start of the forcing cone.
I will try to get some other ammo and see if the problem persists. I may try rst 2.5 in. shells ( they don't list 2 3/4 in 16 Ga.)
If the problem persists I will call Dean Harris and possibly drive up to Tahlequah to get his opinion.
Thanks again
