I just won my first genuine MS 1903 (not counting the Greek sporter I have in the works). Naturally, it has the SEM bases, but like most, the scope/"rings" are missing. I am waiting for a response from the previous owner about the scope, but we all know how that will play out. I've read a few posts of the difficulties and perils of attempting to do it yourself. I guess my question is more centered on the MS versions. Are these easier to make due to the single hook in the rear? Or does that mean they have to be that much more exacting and precise? Has anyone tried to make them for an MS rifle? Does anyone know of a reliable and reputable smith that could handle the project without the approx $1k price tag?

fallschirmjaeger,
I suggest you carefully study the catalogs of " Ernst Apel Wuerzburg" (EAW) and "Eric Recknagel" (ERA) to find the parts you need. Both of these firms have Websites and have the parts. There are so many choices of ring diameters and heights that it takes either a lot of study or experience to get the right parts. The front ring will come with the foot plate( fuss platten) already fit to it. The plate already on the rifle drifts out from left to right. The single lug on the rear foot is easier to fit than the more common( different type guns) double ones. It would be very helpful if you could closely study a rifle with scope already mounted.
Good Luck,
Mike

Posing with my Greek project and a 1909 Argy stutzen that came from a local gunsmiths estate that I picked up.
