It depends on the volume of cartridges you are going to fire, and how fast you are going to fire them.
Simple walked up hunting? Splinter.
A Flurry or posting on a drive? Beavertail.

The primary disadvantage of the beavertail is the added force it exerts on the fore end hanger on the barrel. If it isn't reinforced somehow you have a much greater chance of it pulling the solder joint apart. Besides some use the whole beaver and not the tail.
