I have a older steel tubed El Paso series Weaver 4x12 scope for my latest acquisition- the 1950 M70 in .220Swift. I also have blued steel Buehler split rings for that scope-- Now I need a set of bases for that M70 to mount the scope, and then bore sight it--Does anyone have a set they might care to sell- with the proper length 6/48 machine screws?? Do you have shims and instructions to fit the rings properly?

Not at present- thanks to the gentleman from Galena OH I will have the base/mount for my M70 in hand-- I'll see if I need shims, but I would like to have the instruction booklet for Buehler mounts and rings- Do you have that, and would those items be for sale? If so, advise details to me by the PMS link our host Mr. Weber has provided. RWTF

Fox,

The shims go w/ the rings and fit @ the top of the ring between the ring halves to make up for variance in scope tube diameter & insure that the bottom of the rings is flat & mates properly w/ the base.

I can send you a copy of the instructions for installing both base & rings but if you have used Buhler rings that have been previously fitted & properly sized to a scope, getting a proper fit to another brand of scope is going to be a crap shoot & if the shims between the ring halves are missing you might as well forget it & use some other type of ring & base system. If you have new & unused Buhler rings w/ the shims you should be good to go if you have a caliper or mike to adjust the ring fit to the scope tube.

I always got a smile out of Buhler's instruction sheet. At the top & in BOLD letters it says "If All Else Fails Follow These Directions".

Properly installing Buhler rings to a scope & to the base is a bit more complex than simply screwing every thing together.

There is a number/measurement listed on the instruction sheet that the bottom of the front ring should measure when it is properly shimmed to the scope once you find it then the rear ring uses the same number of shims....since I got rid all of my Beuhler stuff I can't tell you the number.
