Please note the Crown over D mark of Cannons Delcour on Researcher's gun; additional confirmation as to the source of the tubes used by U.S. doublegun makers

[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]

The mark has been found on Smith (“Crown Steel”), Fox, Meriden/Sears, Baker (“Homotensile Steel”), Ithaca NID (“Best Fluid Steel”) and Lefever Nitro Special & A-grade barrels

Researcher most likely has this info on the tip of his fingers, but best I recall Ithaca made 877(?) magnum NID's with 87(?) in 12 ga. with the balance in 3.5" 10 gauges. My magnum 10 was made in 1938. In an earlier thread there was commentary that some of the 12 ga.guns now have ringed" chokes from large shot bridging at the chokes.

I just thought the few 12ga 500 series were 3".....I stupidly left Walt's book in the gun library when I quit Hoffman Estates......so open to enlightenment:)

As we've noted several times before, the SAAMI meeting where it was suggested that manufacturers start marking the chamber length on their shotguns was 1937. From my observations, Savage was marking their Fox doubles by late 1938/early 1939. I begin seeing the "For 2 3/4 or shorter shells" marking on Remington pumps and autoloaders on some 1939 vintage guns. Ithaca seems to have been a bit more lax on this. My 1941 vintage No. 4E 16-gauge has no chamber length marking.

As for the NID Super-10s, their last appearance in Ithaca catalogs and price lists was 1936, before the SAAMI suggestion.

I have a sheet of paper inserted in my Second Edition of Walters book where I have been recording Magnum-Frame 12-gauges and I have ten so far.

I may be imagining things, but the picture seems to show a bit of a swamp ahead of the breech. This could indicate a 12 gauge barrel or maybe a 12 gauge sleeve job.

Does anyone remember the screen name of the seller? The ad for these barrels has disappeared from the website. I tried to leave a bid and it was rejected. Strange.

The listing was ended by the seller because of an error in the listing.
