Have a gander @ the JP Sauer Nr. 169 with >>Vorrat / Onhand<< Crown over Vs from early 1893. Evidently Sauer must have purchased a full Gesteck from Pieper and completed it in-house?

I don't know anything about these, but I did find an old catalog of some sort that included a picture of the component parts of this shotgun (pointing out it's construction). That spectacle piece at the front of the barrels is shown, along with a monobloc and barrel tubes. I am surmising that it was a novel assembly technique where the barrels were inserted into the monobloc and the spectacle in order to simplyfy assembly at a controlled spacing. Not a bad idea. Slide them together, clamp on a fixture and solder. Laying the ribs then becomes a lot simpler.

There are many threads around that show the components.

The source I saw (and didn't copy) was interesting in light of the kit gun. The illustration was an actual photo of all the parts to make the gun spread on a table to illustrate the construction. It occured to me that it might be a kit such as mentioned that Pieper could have provided to Sauer.

I'll see if I can find it, but I often run across stuff like this in long linked searches. Unless they are specifically of interest to keep, I don't copy or record them.

Just as a reference point, the gun went for $793 plus shipping and about 7% taxes and fees. Probably $900 delivered.
