What is a good pitch measurement in inches for a 28" barreled sxs? I've seen them up to 3-1/2", which seems excessive.

3 1/2” is excessive. That gun will be a kicker. Excessive pitch does that.

I like to see an inch or inch and a half, on my guns. Butt flat on the floor, close to a wall, and measured between the wall and the muzzles. But, that is my measurement. Someone else might need something different.

Best,
Ted

Muzzles down pitched in a right angle 1&3/4" to 2&1/2". Pitch for female shooters may need some increase

I have a 30” gun with a checkered butt. Recoil forces the butt down off my shoulder. Pitch is 7/8” at muzzles. I’m thinking I need neutral pitch and a pad.

assume your double is a 12 bore, correct. I'm wondering if there isn't enough "gription" at the shoulder pocket with that checkered butt surface. Do you have a padded vest, hunting jacket or other wearing apparel that thenface of the checkered butt on your shotgun can adhear to? If it were my gun, which of course it isn't, I would try this "trick' on do-it-yourself gun fitting-- cut a piece of a medium grit sandpaper to the outline of the butt on your shotgun, put it with the rough side out, vis- the plain side stuck (temporarily) to the butt checkered surface with a doubled loop of masking tape, once it is secure, try the mount, and even shoot to see if your gun still slips. maybe all you may need to solve this problem is to have the surface of the checkered walnut of your gunstock "pointed up"?? Think I've got it down to 2 1/2. Fits my build. Thanks for the replies!
