Jon Hosford does this all the time at the various shoots such as the NE SXS and at the Southern.

Like a lot of nice people, Jon is always willing to help others out by measuring their barrels with his setup. Once you see how easy it is, or how easy he makes it look, you will seriously consider buy his tool. I have two different setups and find his give me the most consistent results. I just hope I am doing it right every time. If you are going to buy any number of doubles a good measuring device and the knowledge of how to use it is one of the best investments you can make. I have passed on more than one double which looked to be high condition only to find out the barrels were paper thin. Shine hides a lot of sins.

You can probably buy a Manson tool for less than you will spend to travel somewhere for someone else to do the job for you.

That is the one that I have that I got from Brownell's. Once I figured out how to zero for the flex, I have been able to get good measurements that were subsequently confirmed by people like Kirby Hoyt with much more expensive gauges.

It won't help with measurements at the forcing cone though, which I assume the Hosford gauge can manage.

John charges $10 but he gives you a card with wall thickness, chamber length and choke measurements. He also removes barrel dents as well.

I had a Westley Richards 16 with Damascus barrels that were slightly out of round at the muzzle and he fixed them up in about 5 minutes at Hauseman's.

The Manson gauge will measure the forcing cone area. Properly used, it does not flex. Why do you assume that it will not work on the forcing cone?
