baretta is makin an auto loader an forochi is makin the ammo in one oz loads...

any experience with this combo?

have a 28 ga custom made ithaca nid repro, with heavy barrels...

thinkin bout havin the barrels machined for tubes and the chambers opened to three inch...

your thoughts?

OK, Herr Flammenwurfer- I'll keep it simple-- "If it's not broken, don't mess with it. Why shoot a 3" 28 gauge shell, instead shoot a std. 20 gauge 2&3/4" shell. save yourself some bucks so you can enjoy more grits. I like the Palmetto instant variety, with maple syrup instead of oatmeal for breakfast. I also like grits with ham and red eye gravy-- RWTF

A 3” 28 ga shell is just dumb.

I think one oz is too much for 28 ga and there're bigger gauges for it as The Fox said.

3/4 of a oz seems to be perfect for our 28s. I gave away 2 cases of 1 oz loads I was given by a friend who passed away and the the family had me stop by and pick up the ammo in the basement.
My buddy took one case. We shoot a lot of doves together where he was using a 28 gage over and under with 3 inch chambers. The one oz loads I noticed a louder report with a little more jump from the gun.

Birds were just as dead with 3/4 oz load as the 1 oz loads.

I saw a YouTube Video where a couple of guys were shooting 28 gauge 1 3/8 oz loads of TSS 9.5, pattern was crazy good I would not think twice pulling the trigger with that load.

I believe benelli Worked with fiocchi to develop the shell for their ethos shotgun.

I was told the 3 inch 28 gauge came along to compete with the 3 inch 20 gauge for waterfowl and pheasant.

With waterfowl the density of non-lead shot is an issue, so the larger payload is handy. And of course for shooting at pheasants, the heavier payload allows a person to carry the lightweight 28 gauge gun.

Tell us more about the 1 3/8 ounce load for the 28. How long was the shell?

TSS 9.5 at 13g/cc can put the big payload in the 3” hull

Lessee ......... a 3" 28 ga. is dumb, so a 3" .410 must be dumber? Reasoning(?) being ....... if you can't do it with 1/2 oz. in a .410, go to 3/4 oz. in a 28? If that won't do it go to a 7/8 oz. in a 20, and if that won't do it go to a 1 oz. load in a 16? And, again, if that won't do it go to a 1 1/8 oz. 12 ga. load. But, what about the excellent 11/16 and 3/4 oz. loads for the .410, and the excellent 1 oz. load in a 20, much less the excellent loadings for the 3" 20 ga., and the great 1 1/8 oz. 16 ga. loads, and I guess just forget about 1 1/4, 1 3/8, and 1 5/8 oz. loads for the 12s. This argument goes nowhere, IMO.

I hunted quail this afternoon that were released last August. Many covey rises were like wild birds. I shot a 3/4 oz. load of nickel plated 8s in 3" .410 handloads for awhile, then switched to my 28, again with 3/4 oz. loads. There was no difference in the way the two 3/4 oz. loads killed. None. May be dumb to use a 3/4 oz. load in a 3" .410 shell, but I like them, a lot. The quail ...... not so much.
