A friend showed me some paper shells that he picked up made by the peters cartridge company, 3 inch 16 gauge. What side-by-side manufacture made a 3 inch 16 gauge (in the same era of paper holes, not new manufacture)? Thank you.

Cool, and on the Parker collectors site they know of six VH grades.

Also, these 16 gauges with 3 inch chambers seem to be fairly rare, I have not found documentation that many were built. It makes me wonder why ammunition manufacturers made the shells for so few guns.

Eight or nine Ansley H. Fox 16-gauges were ordered for 3-inch shells and a grand total of one was ordered for 2 7/8-inch shells.

While the catalogs of our ammunition manufacturers list 2 7/8-inch 16-gauge shells I've yet to see a box. I have recorded 2 7/8-inch 12- and 20-gauge boxes.
