A friend is seeking information about this 12/70 Merkel O&U ejector.

It has post 1954 Birmingham marks, but no obvious viewer’s date stamp.

I am not very familiar with German (DDR ?) marks, can anyone put a date bracket on them?

Thanks, Ed.

I was thinking that the Crowns indicated Pre-war proof marks but it seems the Communists brought them back in 1950 as no-one was recognising the marks they brought in in 1945.

Interesting, I remember reading that Merkel switched from leaf springs to coils when the wall came down. Moving mfg west.
So, you can bracket the mfg date by spring type as to where manufactured, and when.

Out there doing it best I can.

Indeed, GDR Post 1950. The >>Outstanding << Quality / „Hervorragende Qualität“ stamp was to assure the end user that the longarm was composed of proper components. The Russians had been forcing them to make do with old machines and inferior components such that in 1952/1953, there was almost a revolt. The quality had dipped as well as the components and the „Hervorragende Qualität“ stamp and a few others were pressed into service.
