Every locking system depends upon close fitting to work and proper materials to last.

I was looking at an older German gun with underbolt but it also has the dolls head extension but no though extension locking, just the head fitting down into a recess area at top of breach. Sounds like it could assist for tighter and maybe stronger barrel to action fit from what I am gathering from all the posts.

Thx for the info.

Or the top rib bolting system?

Preacher, the answer to that question should be very evident from the title of this Thread, "Dolls head - huh - what's it good for?".

To the OP, Greener gives a pretty good explanation of the purpose and utility of the Dolls Head on pages 165 and 166 of "The Gun and Its' Development". Since we don't see BSS shotguns being shot loose under normal use, the addition of a Dolls Head probably wouldn't add much to an already sound design.

A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.
