Carlo told me he is not actually related to the various Rizzini gunmakers. I met him yesterday at the most enjoyable (if I forget all my misses) event which I entered for the experience and not in expectation of being competitive.

Watching the video I am cross with myself for only breaking 6 out of 8 on stand 1 which I suspect was intended as a gentle confidence builder.

After that it got more tricky and I finished on 43 out of 100 (and my friend pictured below who was borrowing my Italian made .410 Rottweil O&U of course did better at 53).

Stand 12, crossing incomers, worked out better for me at 7 broken out of 8, but there were a lot of misses on the path there and I know I need to work on dropping crossers.

They did a really good special for lunch , braised Wood pigeon breasts with spinach and mash, and the ground, venue and organisation were all splendid.

I am not sure if they were fully booked (a maximum of 200) but I hope that some .410 re-loaders were able to salvage the 20,000 or so empties.

I only saw one Side by Side, an Ugartecha boxlock being used in the squad in front of us but I see in the Video at least 2 others - one with hammers.

A shooter in our squad was doing well with a silenced Mossberg 500 which probably accounts for a lot of pests when he is not using it on clays.

After the shoot my friend took me stalking. We saw an elegant Roebuck, but he was striking a “Can’t shoot me- I’m on a skyline!” pose and my Buttelo call didn’t persuade him to move to somewhere less safe.

I’ve seen Mr Rizzini’s 410 Club shoots on you tube. What a hoot, helice with a 410. I don’t own a 410 but I see one in my future.

Is everyone shooting .410 on 20 frame guns and 3” cartridges?
1/2 vs 11/16oz loads?

I’m shooting at Churchill’s in North Yorkshire this afternoon.

It takes great skill to run 95, Well done to the winner!

Parabola, were you shooting w/ Geoff Gerrod? (Sp) He runs a suppressed .410.

Out there doing it best I can.

I didn’t get the name of the chap in our squad with the silenced Mossberg 500 but he wasn’t Geoff Garrod.

As we were shooting in squads and guns went back into slips once fired I couldn’t observe a great deal except in our squad and the one before when we tail-gated it.

I did not see any 2 1/2 inch empties, and most people were using 18 gram 3”.

They allowed plastic wads (many clay shoots insist on fibre) and so with fixed 1/4 and 1/2 chokes I used Fiocchi plastic Magnum 8 76mm to get as much pattern density as I could.

My Italian made Rottweil is based on a 28 bore frame.

Have fun in Yorkshire!

There is also a YouTube video of this event on the Fieldsports Britain channel in episode 718 (mid way through) showing their team going round.

One of them was Geoff Garrod who was using a borrowed Browning O&U, and the channel presenter Charlie Jacoby was using the hammer side by side his mother used to shoot with.

Thanks for posting that, Mike. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as I tend to concerning anything concerning shooting flying with .410s.

May God bless America and those who defend her.
