I seriously doubt that a 1/4” difference in LoP would affect your shooting performance. Leave it as is until you pattern it. Then remove the pad and pattern it again. See how much difference the pad length really makes. DaC will have a much more dramatic effect. If after patterning the gun you have determined that the LoP really makes that big of a difference, then go with a nice horn plate or similar. Save the current pad. Do NOT shorten the stock!
The only constant in life is change.

I got the gun yesterday and really like it. I can feel the longer LOP but will give it a chance as it is. The pad that's on it is the same as you can see that was spec'd out on the original order form, and in total is about 5/8" wide. Making it a bit thinner without cutting the wood appears to be an option but I'll hold off for now. Thanks to all for the advice and insight.

I've always considered the whole "caretaker" argument to be absurd. The original owner was not told how the gun had to be configured, and neither should you. It's your gun, do whatever you want to it.

The new gun shoots well. Took it out and targeted it a bit today. When shooting it I didn’t notice the 1/4” at all. I’m sure it helped only wearing a t-shirt today; a plus when a gun made for someone else has measurements very close to your own.

Wow!! That's gorgeous!! I'd see how it shoots with a shooting vest, if that is what you normally shoot with. That pad is really nice, too. Take care and good luck with that!!

Wonko is right. It is your gun and you decide what you want to do. But keep in mind, when people on here say you can do this or that, they are only making suggestions and trying to give you ideas that you may not have thought of and they are only trying to help you. So, I apologize if I went overboard suggesting what to do. You make the decision on how you want the gun to be and enjoy your gun. Good luck.
